Poor Man's Liquor Box

I will post weekly ideas or suggestions on drinks for parties, to ask for at a bar, or just to have at home. I will try to keep it to where the most expensive thing you buy is only the alcohol and that your budget will stay under $50 to make the said drink but also other great drinks. I have only personal experience and love of taste, and drinking. Please only for 21+ year old people and I am a STRONG advocate AGAINST drinking and driving, as well as, to PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY. Best way to enjoy a drink is to remember it and enjoy it another day.

I will start with one drink that has made me very popular at parties and is a favorite novelty drink: Ninja Turtle
The way I came across the idea for this drink was going to Buffalo Wild Wings with a friend of mine. He was adamant to try these awesome shooters that are green and sweet. I kinda questioned his manhood, as I’m a whiskey and beer guy. When the light headed girl of a waitress failed to get us our drinks, by saying that the bartender did not know how to make them. I became motivated to figure out the recipe and make this drink. I did some searches and so many convoluted recipes came up using liquors and other vernacular for bartenders. I said damn it i just want the drink. So here is the first variety that I discovered while at a party at my girlfriend’s cousin’s (Angie Gonzalez) birthday party. Note: the ingredients where available to me and I improvised.

Ninja Turtle Angie
1 (Shot Glass) Skky Vodka
2 Shot Glasses Alize Bleu
Orange Juice

Use a plastic cup filled with ice. To measure use a single shot glass, fill one shot glass filled with Skky Vodka then pour. Fill up to half of plastic cup with Orange Juice and then STIR. Pour to 2 shot glasses of Alize Bleu into cup then STIR. Should have a green look. Enjoy. Taste should be of orange juice.

I was able to entertain the entire party with glass after glass of this drink until there were nothing but empty bottles. But it left me wondering if there was a way to by pass the orange taste. So I experimented at home and made a simple version. Which works great for shooters.

Ninja Turtle
Orange Juice
Green Apple Hawaiian Punch
Vodka

There are 2 versions of this drink shooters and drink.
Shooter: 1 part vodka, 1 part orange juice, 1 part green apple. Layer each ingredient evenly in the shot glass
Drink: 2 shots of vodka, less than half of cup of orange juice, top off with Green Apple Hawaiian Punch, just pour ingredients in a cup with ice and stir.

Now for the big spenders that want to spend their money but get a great drink and most importantly, smooth buzz. One of my friends and another one of my girlfriend’s cousin (Jose Lomas) influenced this recipe.

Ninja Turtle Manolo

2 shots of Grey Goose
2 shots of Hypnotic
Fresh Orange Juice

Fill glass with ice. Pour 2 shots of Grey Goose and pour fresh orange juice till half of cup, then stir. Pour 2 shots of Hypnotic into cup then stir again and enjoy.
For more complex taste, pour ingredients except orange juice into a shaker with ice and squeezed limes. Shake well. Pour into glass with ice and top with orange juice, garnish with orange wedge.

Well hopefully you enjoyed this article. Please comment I want to hear the good, the bad, and ugly or drunk. Please share your recipes, suggestions, and your stories! Next week I will provide drinks that have tequila and party tricks that are a lot fun, especially with drunk people. “Worthless people live only to eat and drink; people of worth eat and drink only to live.” -Socrates
